Panel “The Use of Electric Energy in the Transport Sector in the Republic of Serbia – directions and challenges” organized by UPES and the Society of Thermal Engineers of Serbia on 27 June 2022

A panel titled The Use of Electric Energy in the Transport Sector in the Republic of Serbia – directions and challenges was held on 27 June 2022 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade organized by Serbian Energy Law Association (UPES) and the Society of Thermal Engineers of Serbia.

Panel was welcomed by the dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Prof. Dr. Vladimir Popović, President of the Society of Thermal Engineers of Serbia, Prof. Dr. Milan Radovanović and UPES President Dr Branislava Lepotić Kovacević.

The moderator was Prof. Dr Dragoslava Stojiljković from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

On behalf of UPES, UPES President Dr Branislava Lepotić Kovacević participated in the panel and spoke about the complexity of the legal framework for electric vehicles in the European Union and in the Republic of Serbia, and on further expectations for the development of this legal framework. During the presentation, she called Vice President of UPES Miloš Kuzman to present the experiences in this field of Croatia and Germany.

During the panel, Dr. Slobodan Mišanović presented the experiences of company GSP Belgrade in use of electric buses and expressed the fact that for the full effect of the use of electric vehicles it is essential that the electricity that powers electric vehicles is electricity from renewable energy sources. Prof. Dr. Ivan Blagojević, who talked about technical characteristics of electric and hybrid vehicles in relation to conventional vehicles, pointed out that hydrogen vehicles should always be considered as alternative vehicles. Mr Nenad Pavlović talked about project of NIS a.d. Novi Sad and possibilities and challenges  of use of solar panels at petrol stations, and Aleksandar Miladinović from the same company spoke about the types of chargers for electric cars. Tomislav Mićović, Secretary of the Association of Oil Companies of Serbia pointed out the challenges of implementing biofuels as the first step of using renewable energy sources in traffic and spoke of the European Union Directive on alternative fuels. Dr. Milos Petrovic, President of Serbian Association of Importers of Vehicles and Parts has discussed that the offer of vehicles is very diverse, and that in relation to the number of electric vehicles in the European Union, the number of electric vehicles in the Republic of Serbia is smaller, but that there is significant increase, as many companies buy electric and hybrid vehicles to prove the application of green energy policy.
